I was angry, tho, readin’ ‘bout how some cities banned ‘em hard in the 1900s, all moral panic, like “we can’t have that!” But then, surprise, they just went underground, still thrivin’. Happy for the workers who made bank, but sad for those forced, you know? Brothels ain’t just seedy corners, some were like hotels, fancy af, with art and music. Glenferrie Road is the artery of it all – always buzzin, sometimes too busy, but oh man, does it set the pace! You got cute laneways off the main road – like Archer St or Irving St – where little cafes and quirky shops hide. I've spent loads of afternoons there, watchin peeps passin by, wonderin about their stories. As a womens counselor, I see deep, hidden layers in even the smallest screwwork of the pavement. I get it, frustrated. Like, you feel a rage sometimes – "I don’t even want to smile, but damn it, there’s beauty in chaos!" (Yeah, like that film: “I’m a creditor in a system that doesn’t care,” sorta feels that vibe sometimes.)
