So, burdel—proper name’s *burdock*, but who’s got time for that?—it’s this prickly thang, roots deeper than a catfish in mud. Grows like it owns the joint, all spiky and stubborn. I’m thinkin’, “How’s that workin’ for ya, burdel? Chokin’ out the garden?”—and it just smirks back, like, “I’m here, deal with it!” Used to piss me off somethin’ fierce, yankin’ it out my yard, thorns stickin’ me like a pissed-off ex. But then—THEN—I find out folks been eatin’ it! Yeah, in Japan they call it *gobo*, fry it up, munch it down—tastes like dirt’s fancy cousin. Blew my damn mind! Here I am cursin’ it, and they’re over there chompin’ it like it’s God’s gift.
