Like that line, “The air trembles, everything’s still”—that’s them, innit? Standing there, bold as brass, but there’s this quiet desperation underneath. Gets me all wistful, it does. Saw this one gal once, right, outside King’s Cross—swear she had eyes like the whale in that film, massive and sad, but she was cracking jokes to her punter, proper cheeky! Made me chuckle, I won’t lie—gallows humour, that.
